Chinese Foreign Minister spoke about the origin of the coronavirus

Wang Yi said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency and China Central Television.

"When China was struck by an unknown coronavirus, it immediately took action to conduct an epidemiological investigation, identify the pathogen and publish key information, including sequencing the virus's genome," the diplomat said.

He also recalled that China was the first country to report coronavirus cases.

“We were at the forefront of the fight against disinformation, attempts at politicization and stigmatization. We were determined to make sure that the objective narrative and collective memory of the fight against the pandemic were not distorted by lies,” he said.

On December 31, 20219, the Chinese authorities informed WHO of an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in Wuhan, Hubei province. The causative agent of the disease was a new coronavirus, which was named COVID-19. Already on March 11, WHO declared the outbreak of coronavirus infection a pandemic.

In total, according to the organization, there are almost 82 million infected people in the world. According to Johns Hopkins University, there are already 84 million cases of the disease in the world. Most infections are in the USA, India and Brazil. Russia ranks fourth, followed by France, Britain, Italy, Spain, Germany and Colombia.
