Thus, the government accepted the recommendation of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Administration (MHRA), which tested the drug. Health Minister Matt Hancock said the National Health Service (NHS) will try to provide it as early as possible while vaccinations are slated to begin on January 4.
Its vaccination order has not yet been determined, but it is already known that 12 weeks must elapse between the injections of the first and second doses. Hancock hoped that the majority of the British population would receive the drug by the spring, which will accelerate the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
On December 2, the United Kingdom approved a coronavirus vaccine jointly produced by the American company Pfizer and the German company BioNTech. The European Union allowed its use later, on December 21.
There are currently several COVID-19 vaccines in the world. In Russia, two vaccines are registered: "Sputnik V" and "EpiVacCorona". On December 5, Moscow started vaccination against coronavirus with Sputnik V. The United States and the United Kingdom have also begun inoculating the population with Pfizer / BioNTech.
